Congressman Price presents the 2nd Battalion,

1st Brigade of the GA State Defense Force with the

President’s Volunteer Service Award

 Award is a Prestigious National Honor for Volunteer Service

Marietta, GA – GA State Defense Force today announced that 2nd Battalion, First Brigade has been awarded the 2007 President’s Volunteer Service Award, a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service.  The Award was presented to 2BN Commanding Officer, CPT Amie Toole, by Congressman Tom Price following the Memorial Day Service at Marietta Cemetery where 2BN handled security and traffic control.

 2nd Battalion, First Brigade of the Georgia State Defense Force has a long history of volunteer service on behalf of the citizens of Georgia. In 2007 the 2BN logged over 14, 812 hours of volunteer service.

 “In his 2002 State of the Union Address, President George W. Bush created the USA Freedom Corps, and called on every American to make a lifelong commitment to volunteer service.  The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups who have answered that call,” said Congressman Price. 

 “America’s volunteers work to make our communities stronger and safer. GA State Defense Force should be especially proud of their volunteers who have made volunteer service a central part of their lives.”

 The Award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a group created by President Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making to our Nation.  Chaired by two-time Super Bowl Champion Darrell Green, with former U.S. Senators Bob Dole and John Glenn as honorary co-chairs, the Council comprises leaders in government, media, entertainment, business, education, nonprofits and volunteer service organizations, and community volunteering.

State Defense Force aids search for missing teen.  

Approx 150 soldiers from the GA State Defense Force searched on Saturday Nov. 24 for signs of Justin Gaines who disappeared several weeks earlier after leaving a local night club.  Nothing was turned up in the search of this rough terrain.
